Mather Overlook

Checks before departure

NPS permits stargazing but not overnight camping at the overlook. The high-elevation scenic drive can close independently of the park grounds.

Opening window

Park grounds are open 24 hours year-round, subject to current road, weather, and management closures.

Reservation

No reservation is represented for short-term viewing; return to lawful lodging or a campsite after observing.

Transport

Approach from Baker with fuel and a return plan; services and mobile coverage are limited.

Road and arrival

Wheeler Peak Scenic Drive and the Nevada approach must both have current owner clearance.
